Description

The Isoscan range consists of four main versions, all equipped with a motorised automatic rotating turret, operating in compliance with ISO standards (micro-hardness, low hardness and Vickers hardness) and ASTM (micro and macro-hardness).

The measurement of Vickers hardness is characterised by high precision and a wide range of applications.

Often more cost-effective than other test methods, since the required calculations and procedures, as well as the associated 136° diamond pyramid indenter, are suitable for all metals regardless of hardness.

This test is particularly suitable for thin materials, such as films, cables, surface treatments and small parts. Using the appropriate indenter, the system also allows the determination of Knoop hardness.

Automatic microdurometers / hardness testers Isoscan AC and AC PLUS: developed based on a patent by the National Research Council (C.N.R. 67181 A/84), they feature a workpiece table with manual movement, automatic brightness adjustment and enable automatic microhardness/hardness measurements and profiles.

The results obtained, independent of operator subjectivity, guarantee the reliability and repeatability required by modern industrial processes.

The Isoscan AC version allows the determination of Vickers microhardness/hardness of a sample by automatically measuring the indentation diagonals, generated directly by the instrument.

This system ensures a high degree of measurement reliability and speed, fully in line with the method described in ISO 6507/2 and ASTM E384. It uses an automatic device that performs the load application and indentation generation.

The measurement system consists of an optical unit with LED illumination and a high-resolution digital camera that allows indentation reading in two modes:

  • Automatic reading: it searches for the indentation and then measures it to determine hardness.
  • Manual reading: the operator places the reference reticle on the four vertices of the indentation and the system measures the two diagonals, calculating the corresponding hardness value.
  • The new software package, compatible with the latest Windows versions, is easy to use and quick to learn. The entire test cycle, as well as the individual preliminary operations, are guided by the computer. To ensure high repeatability of automatic measurement, the software constantly controls the brightness level and focus.

In addition, the software manages the following functions:

  • Corrections for cylindrical or spherical parts according to ISO 6507/2 and ASTM E384 standards.
  • Automatic conversion of measurements into other hardness scales according to ISO 18265 and ASTM E140 standards.
  • Export of results to Word and creation of customised reports.
  • Available as an upgrade option for all Isoscan AC models, consisting of:

  • USB digital micrometer head installed on the X axis, resolution 0.001 mm (optional on the Y axis).
  • Creation and management of profile and array models (hardness maps).
  • Synoptic control of the progress of profile and array execution.
  • Software for creating hardness profiles starting from a model. Linear or zig-zag profiles, arrays are available, based on the coordinates automatically acquired by the micrometer head and the hardness values measured at these points.
  • Graphical display (2D and 3D) (1) of the profile. Results and profile can be automatically exported to Word Templates.
  • Repetition of individual indentations and/or a single measurement.
  • Automatic determination of the hardness value at a preset distance from the edge.
  • Once a hardness value is set, calculation of the distance from the edge and the effective treatment depth.
  • COMPUTERISED AUTOMATIC OPTICAL-DIGITAL READING SYSTEM

    It consists of:

    HARDWARE Computer Entry Level:

  • Monitor with flat screen, for system management and for displaying the indentation detected by the camera.
  • Keyboard and mouse.
  • SOFTWARE

  • The program runs in the MSWindows environment and guides the user through the various operations in an extremely simple and intuitive way.
  • Fully automatic execution of the hardness profile measurement and the effective thickness.
  • Selection of the specimen edge line; programming the direction and the direction of indentation execution, via a goniometric reference. Preview of the analysis areas.
  • Ability to execute one or more concatenated hardness profiles.
  • Ability to re-run individual measurements on indentations selected within the profile.
  • Management of multiple profiles and determination of the respective average values.
  • Graphs of multiple overlapping profiles.
  • Graphs of effective depths of multiple profiles.
  • Verification of the indentation shape factor in accordance with UNI standards, repetition of measurements on deformed or unclear indentations.
  • Automatic measurement still allows correction of the vertices position using the mouse cursor.
  • Verification of the distances between two adjacent indentations, in accordance with EN ISO 6507-1 standards.
  • Correction of the measured hardness values, depending on the specimen surface type under test and in accordance with the EN ISO 6507 and ASTM E384 tables.
  • Automatic focusing.
  • Manual measurements of thickness and overlays.
  • Sending measurements to Microsoft Excel® (Microsoft Office package not included) and automatic composition of a complete Report with graph and statistical results (mean and standard deviation), customisable with your own logo etc., and printable.
  • Data, images and documentation storage via a compatible Microsoft Access Database (Microsoft Office package not included). Image storage on disk in TIFF 6.0 or JPEG format, with possible memo overwrites.
  • Repetition of the measurement of non-conforming indentations “Off Line”, i.e. at the end of the measurement procedure of all profiles.
  • OPTIONAL FUNCTIONS

    Panorama function

  • The “Panorama” function is available, allowing a panoramic view of the specimen or of a portion of it, through motorised scanning and image acquisition, shots with the macro objective (10x), which combine, like mosaic tiles, to form the overall image. On this overall image, areas of the specimen under test can be inspected and the starting edge positions of the hardness profiles can be selected. Use of this function requires an additional licence.
  • Selection of the scanning area size and composition of the “panoramic” image.
  • Saving to a bitmap file (.BMP) with the name assigned by the user, of the panoramic image.
  • Reading of a panoramic image stored on a bitmap file (.BMP).
  • Copying of the current image to the clipboard to paste it into a Word or Excel Report/Document (Microsoft Office package not included).
  • Selection, on the panoramic image, of a point for inspecting the surrounding area.
  • Graphical representation of the position of the starting points of the indentation series and the position of the indentations themselves.
  • Selection of the edge, the starting point of the profile and the direction of the indentation series.
  • Verification, by overlay, of the expected and actual indentation positions after their execution.
  • Procedure description in the User Manual. Program-guided procedure execution.
  • Matrice function

“Matrice” function for studying hardness profiles on welds or extended surfaces. It allows the definition of “matrix” profiles, useful for studying welds.

N profiles are defined, at a preset distance from each other.

The final effect will be a matrix-grid of indentations, with preset distances between the profiles and, within each profile, the indentations.

Within each profile, the distance between contiguous indentations can be constant or variable. The program also provides the automatic calculation of the number N of profiles.

Once the distance between profiles is set, it is sufficient to indicate the start and end of the profile by two mouse clicks on the panoramic image. With the two mouse clicks, the specimen edge is also defined. The program allows following oblique edges at any inclination. This module can be used only if you have the licence for “Panorama”.
